Let’s go right to scripture.

 “For אֱלֹהִים יְהֹוָה, yehôvâh ‘ĕlôhı̂ym[i] of Israel says That He hates divorce, For it covers one’s garment with violence,” Says יְהֹוָה Yehovah of hosts. Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously.” (Malachi 2:16 NKJV)

 Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. (Revelation 2:15 NKJV)

 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of יְהֹוָה your אֱלֹהִים Elohiym which I command you. (Deuteronomy 4:2 NKJV)

 “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it. (Deuteronomy 12:32 NKJV)

 Every word of אֱלוֹהַּ[ii] Elohahh is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar. (Proverbs 30:5-6 NKJV)

 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, אֱלֹהִים[iii]will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; (Revelation 22:18 NKJV)

 YeHoVaH has laid it out well in the Bible. However, let’s drill down to what constitutes a Nicolaitan? Do you remember when the “stage mom” of John and James asked Y’shua if her sons could be seated next to the Messiah in Heaven? I’ll tell you, the ink hit the fan that day. Here is Y’shua’s response.

 “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” They said to Him, “We are able.” So He said to them, “You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father.” And when the ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers. But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave– just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:22-28 NKJV)

 This passage depicts the doctrine of the Nicolaitans. Nico = ruling. Laitans = The Laity or common folk. “Leadership”, in other words. John and James along with Mom tried to get a free pass to exalted leadership.

The Messiah nipped it in the bud with John and James but this doctrine that took root in the church by the time Revelation was written hasn’t left. It’s still stinking up the place. Christian bookstores are crammed to the ceiling with books on Church “leadership”. It’s not about serving, it’s about church leadership to produce church growth as if the church is responsible for its growth.

 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising אֱלֹהִים[iv], and having favour with all the people. And יְהֹוָה[v] added to the church daily such as should be saved. (Acts 2:46-47 KJV).

 The temple that is mentioned here is the Hebrew or Jewish Temple. The public square, so to speak. The First believers, who were Jewish, did not abandon their Jewish places of worship and build churches and seek isolation. Thank God, my tongue is firmly planted in my cheek, that we have Nicolaitan’s today to build all these great walled buildings for us to isolate ourselves in.
